Spoiler alert…do not read if you haven’t watched the movie and plan on watching it!!
Wow…that’s all I could really say after watching this movie. I’ve always been a softy when it comes to love stories and people dying. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I went to watch this movie with my fiance’. I don’t think the title really clicked in my head. I cried for about 30 minutes total of the 2 hour movie!!!
There are 4 Navy Seals that are sent to do a mission of killing “Shaw” in Afghanistan. They are dropped off by a helicopter and then inch their way to the city where the Taliban and Shaw are at. They reach their final point and decide to lay down for a while to rest. Just as they start to relax, 3 people start going through the area they are resting herding their goats and they discover the Seals. There is 1 really young boy, a teenage boy, and an order man. They are unarmed. The 4 Seals debate for a few minutes on whether to let them go, tie them up, or kill them. They chose to let them go and abandon the mission since the attack has been compromised and plan to make their way to the top of a mountain to catch a flight back out. When they get to the top of the mountain, their phone won’t pick up a signal so they are stuck there. A group of men from the city, including Shaw, hear from the teenager that the Seals are up there so they go after them to kill them….and that’s when all hell breaks loose.
The fight was vicious. The Seals ended up tumbling down several mountains and getting shot several times but still toughed it through it. One guy even got shot in the head but was somehow still going.
As the title says…and you probably knew already…but all the guys die but one. Mark Wahlberg. He was actually pulled into safety from a local village that found him in a river drinking water (Which, by the way, he got to after walking miles on a broken leg). They looked to be the same religion but weren’t the Taliban. They took him back to their little town and the Taliban found him there and attacked the town. The villagers had sent out a messenger to tell the Americans Mark was there and they eventually came to get him when the Taliban were attacking there. (The town has some belief that they will help people in need so that’s why they took him in).
This whole movie blew my mind because it really happened. It’s not just a movie. It was actually based on a true story. Those Seals endeared so much over the course of a couple of days that no one should have to go through. It’s movies like that, that make me really appreciate everything the military people do for us.
Thank you to all the Vets and current people enlisted!
All in all, the movie was awesome! Sad…but Awesome!
